SCOPE OF CONSERVATION WORK

Scope of building and monument conservation:
i. It becomes important when there are threats of demolition and other forms of destruction of historic buildings and monuments.
ii. The basis of the scope is established by legislation through listing through regular inspections and documentation, and through town planning and conservation action.
iii. The work of listing historic buildings and monuments is of prime importance in the scope of building conservation and is a continuous process.
iv. The practice of building conservation requires various professional involvement and expertise (town planners, urban designers, conservation architects, quantity surveyors, specialized engineering input, building contractors, archaeologists, art historians, antiquaries and skilled craftsmen). It also demands a high degree of cooperation (team work), experience, communication and great knowledge in building materials and structure.
