Professor Badaruddin Mohamed completed his undergraduate education at University of Northern Iowa, USA where he received BSc. Degree in Environmental Planning.  After working for two years as Assistant Planner at Kuantan Municipal Council, he went to Japan for doctoral studies. His doctoral degree was conferred by the School of Social Relations at Rikkyo (St. Paul's) University in Tokyo, Japan  in 1997.  His thesis discussed the importance of public participation in developing tourism sustainable. Research and teaching interests focus on the social and cultural functions of tourism, urban and parks planning, Japan, travel trends, heritage tourism,  sustainable planning and special interest tourism.  He has numerous articles and book chapters dealing with these and related issues. Interests include playing and listening to music, trekking and backpacking, watching and playing soccer, and traveling.
